Obscura Championship via CableStock 2010

Monday, May 10th, 2010

The highly anticipated winch comp in conjunction with this years Cablestock was going off Friday and Saturday as riders dialed in their best lines.  Aaron and Danny along with the help of others utilized a body of water near the TSR camp houses to construct a pool gap and ledges for a 2 trick line.  The competition was thick and heats were stacked containing 5 riders each in the semi’s, top 2 from each advancing to the finals.  Reed Hansen, Andrew Pastura, Danny Hampson, and Ben Horan were the last one’s left battling for the podium spots.  Aaron’s wife Jami, made some beautiful trophies that anyone would have been stoked to receive.  Everyone had a lot of fun, and the environment was super chill and relaxing.  Thanks again to the Obscura crew, Monster, and TSR for making it happen.

ThinkTank 2010

ThinkTank2010

We’ve kept quiet up until now with details for this years Alliance wakeskate jam, in fact we haven’t said anything at all. Over winter we’ve been working on some big projects, the most exciting of which is a collaboration with a cable and boat club near London to build the UK’s first true rail park, and to launch the new facility we are bringing ThinkTank to London!

In just over a month’s time from May 27-30, Princes Club in Ashford, Middlesex will be opening the gates to their amazing new jet ski rail park on the previously unused back lake to host ThinkTank. This new facility is ideal for the event with up to 8 new aluminium rails including the obligatory flat bar & incline, a rooftop, double sided kicker, manual pad, banked ledges and more, the jet ski portion of ThinkTank is going to be hands down the best it’s ever been. And for the main feature, we are already in the process of digging a custom pool with a System 2.0 overhead, and two perfect hubba ledges either side of a steel handrail and some concrete stairs. Skateboarding is still very much the inspiration for our event.

We’re all really excited for this year’s jam, and with only 5-weeks until it all kicks off, we are inviting you to get your entry form in for the qualifying contest ahead of the main 3-day event from Friday 28th through Sunday 30th. If you impress us with your skills in the rail park then you could be one of the lucky four to join our invited riders for three days of stress-free riding on the best rails in the country, with the sole aim of progressing wakeskating.

Invited riders for ThinkTank 2010 are:
-  Terry Hannam                  -  Liam Smith
-  Matt Crowhurst                -  Louis Floyd
-  Tarik Ghonheim                -  Jan Kissman
-  Taylor Dell                       -  Oli Woods
-  Simon Powell                   -  Zander Jones
-  Will Bradley                     -  Ollie Moore

Thursday May 27th is the qualifying day, where each rider will have 15-minutes to impress in the jet ski rail park, demonstrating your skate & rail skills and proving yourself up to the challenge of the Stair Set. To get your chance at taking part, all you have to do is fill out the downloadable entry form and post or email it to sim@alliancewake.co.uk by Wednesday May 26th. In order to run the day smoothly we can only accept entries in advance, so there will be no registration on the day. There is a £10 entry fee which is payable on the day or in advance by debit/credit card. Due to time constraints there are only 20 places for qualifying and it’s on a first-come-first-serve basis so be quick about it.

We will be releasing some more information soon about the event, but for now get down to the lake and start practicing, because if last years event is anything to go by, the standard of riding is going to be very, very high.

Monday, March 1st, 2010

Recently the Texas Ski Ranch hosted the seventh annual FreezeRide to kick off the 2010 season. After a long off season, FreezeRide always launches the Tournament season at TSR and gets a little stoke back in the bones. It was the slayshTank Team that showed up to compete on Saturday, placing in 7 of the top 10 spots for the Pro Wakeskate Divisions.  Grant Roberts from the Obscura team took 1st on cable. Oury Yarbrough kept it fresh by taking 1st in Pro Boat Division and 2nd on the Cables. Bret Little, David RoehmCollin Gee, and Matt Davidson also made impressions for all those who showed up. The slayshTank Coalition also showed up, Ryan Light and Mike Shore shot video and stills. Waketoberfest 2009

Friday, January 15th, 2010

Oct. 2009 marked the 11th annual Waketoberfest; the longest running wake culture event in Texas. Previously held each fall on Lake Austin, Waketoberfest has since out grown that venue (Emma Long) and has been re-located to the spacious Pace Bend Park on Lake Travis. 2009 was the 2nd year the wakeskaters have had a rail specific competition. More important than the comps, this year was all about chillin’ out and meetin’ new peeps, takin’ sets with the homies, and tossin’ back a few man sodas by the campfire. For 2009 the officials at Pace Bend moved our event location within the park to a private area that’s usually closed to the general public. This made for a much more intimate setting like the original fests held on Lake Austin. Pyramid breweries hooked up the booze and festival goers near and far ascended on Pace Bend for 3 days of shenanigans and shredding.  ”THE” sponsors making radical contributions, gettin’ it done in tough 2009 times included: 360 WAKESouth Austin Marine, Sail & Ski, Austin Boats & Motors, slayshTank, Freeride Wakeboard School, Boardstop, Hydrotunes, BLASTAustin Surf Company, and Yankmeister winches.  Here’s Ryan Light’s re-cap.
